Evan Bayh, former Indiana governor and U.S. senator, honored his father in October by giving the first talk of the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law’s Birch Bayh Lecture Series. The series will be an annual event that focuses on issues of importance to Birch Bayh, a former U.S. senator from Indiana. During his time in the Senate, Birch Bayh authored such seminal legislation as Title IX, the Juvenile Justice Act, and the Bayh-Dole Act, which allows universities and small businesses to retain intellectual property rights for inventions developed with government-funded research.
