Intermedia Festival

For Scott Deal, technology is revolutionizing the world of music, dance and artistic performance. So when he and fellow music faculty members Jordan Munson and Chuiyuan Meng of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI wanted to share their new passion, the first-ever Intermedia Festival was born.

The three-day festival, held last spring, was a collaboration of IUPUI and the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and brought together avant-garde performers from across the country. Performances featured a mix of musicians, vocalists, dancers and other artists with a wide range of interests and styles. Events graced stages at IUPUI's Informatics & Communications Technology Complex and the Indianapolis library, and used online technology to link performers in different locations.

Deal, the director of the Donald Tavel Arts Technology Research Center, is the founder of the Telematic Collective, an Internet performance group; Munson is a musician, composer and multimedia artist; and Meng is a concert pianist, software engineer and web designer.
